Devils
c. Chromewood Music/BMI
I’ve wandered this earth
Forty odd long years
And By God I have rode every dusty old trail
And my devils have chased me everywhere that I go
No matter how far or hard I have rode
At times I’ve found places where I thought I was hid
But my devils kept trackin’ till the learned what I did
They haunted my dreams, interrupted my peace
And walked through my thoughts when I was tryin’ to sleep
And it’s the peace and the dreams that keeps us all ridin’
Searchin’ horizons for cool green groves of trees
Where one can lie down, find relief from the tryin’
The lookin’ and longin’ in this endless ridin’
So I’ve burned lots of bridges and cheered as they fell
Watchin’ debris float downstream to hell
Then I’ve rode like the wind and prayed I was free
Of those devils behind, and their ridin’ for me
And though the toll have been taken still I ride somewhat colder
One eye on the future and one over my shoulder
‘Cause my devils still ride hard and they ride out for me
Guess I’ll meet up with Angels before I’ll be free
I’ve wandered this earth
Forty odd long years
And By God I have rode every dusty old trail
And my devils have chased me everywhere that I go
No matter how far or hard I have rode
